Default Why is there a minimum character value for new posts?

I'm just curious if there is any real reason why our posts have a minimum character count?
Why are we unable to add a simple post to a thread like "haha" or "lol" or even "bump" without having to add more to it to meet the minimum word requirement?

Obviously it's nothing serious but its just one of those little annoying things that I think could be changed without any negative concequences.

    What do you think?

spammers yes, also there is no point having a someone start a thread, and the next next 4 posts after are, HA, or omg, or fun, or bump or cool.

totally agree with you here. if you dont have anything intellegent to say, dont say anything at all! but, if you wish to congratulate a person or emphasize that you really like their post, then you could do so with a bit more than a "lol" :P
Let the current take you where you may not always want to go.
