your thoughts on chatroom!

personally after trying it out for a few min, i dont like it.... having to add friends first defeats the purpose of chat!

beyond that without friends added you cannot create a chatroom....
it could be good however the online list should consist of ALL users currently online on the site as well as there should be no requirements to setup a chatroom, its an interesting idea but so far it falls Very short as far as im concerned.

in its current state it is NOT a chatroom.... its a glorified private chatbox which in this users opinion is completely useless.

Keep in mind i JUST installed it so i'm still trying to figure it out myself.

I added a chatroom last night but i think i did it from the user menu instead of from the ADMIN side. So i just added a chatroom on the admin side, which should stay up.. all the time.

As for your suggestions about ALL users online.. We have about 100 online at any given moment.. and some people dont want others to talk to them.. i also noticed it sort of glitches because of so many people coming and going..

Why would you want 100 people on your list at a time when you might only talk to 5 of them? Just add the people you WANT to talk to and leave....

It's like facebook.. do you want hundreds of people on your list.. or just your friends.

Why would you want 100 people on your list at a time when you might only talk to 5 of them? Just add the people you WANT to talk to and leave....

sorry dont take my comment like discrimination more like constructive criticism, as for seeing the 100 people online thing... personally i like it as i come from an IRC background, but id rather see 100ppl online in a single room where your given the option to open up private live chats with whomever you please/add to a friends list

The script only does so much, i wish i could program a chatroom specific to my needs but its just not possible..

The problem i encountered when i enabled "ALL ONLINE" is that it kept glitching out and the whos online kept popping up and refreshing and was really annoying, hence my decision to disable that.

I have created a general chatroom for people to take part in. When you and others are in the chatroom you can click on there name to open a private chat, that's how you could open a private chat without adding to your friends list.

I keep learning new things about the chat so hopefully we find a good solution most people are happy with.

The chat room worked very well last night , except for a few drop outs , which can be expected. Most that joined in to chat weren't on my friends list. It worked well for all, on my list or not .

If you want to see who's online, look at the bottom of the page .. There's a list of currently active members there. You can pm them from there if you wish .

no offense but I don't like it.
I use a 32 monitor so I can see thing, i have vision problems.
even with the chat minimized it occupies a 1/2" square near my clock obscuring the text behind it.
Screen space is very important to me, I would prefer a button on the top of the page to press to get into Chat.

Besides which I have trouble typing/spelling so chat just makes my life more difficult, much like PM's I PM someone and send my phone number and the PM me back with questions.

I don't hear PM or Chat notifications but I do hear the phone.

sorry to hear! On the right side of that gray bar at the bottom there is a icon with a down arrow. If you press that then the bar will disappear.

yes that minimizes the gray bar but I'm still left with a 1/2' square 'ballon icon' text box.

if you turn on timestamping in chatroom, it works on all previous messages, but does not update with new messages, disabling/re-enabling shows timestamps on all messages once again but as stated, all further msgs from that point will not have a timestamp
