Next WCAS meeting November 27th (Sunday)

This is a discussion on Next WCAS meeting November 27th (Sunday) within the Wet Coast Aquarium Society (WCAS) forums, part of the Aqua Lounge category; I was wondering if there is more info about November meeting. Who is the speaker? Thanx...

Here is the letter I just received from WCAS. Please note date and place changes.

Notice of Meeting of Members of the
    Wet Coast Aquarium Society

    Date: Sunday, November 27, 2011
    Time: 1:30 PM
Place: Kitsilano Community Centre, Multi-purpose Room 013
    2690 Larch Street, Vancouver, B.C.
(located at West 12th Avenue and Larch Street)

The Wet Coast Aquarium Society has been active for almost 8 months, having come into existence as a non-profit Society on March 31, 2011. Some recent discussion and changes on the Board and some significant new statistics regarding live meeting participation in the aquarium hobby in the Metro Vancouver area indicate a meeting of the WCAS membership will be of value for all members to consider the opportunities before us.

    Agenda

    1) Brief outline of the reasons WCAS was formed

    2) The financial status of WCAS

    3) A presentation on hobbyist participation levels, options, and opportunities for WCAS in the next year

    4) Member discussion, Q & A

Hi, Gary. I think this might be an interesting meeting. But I crack up when I read, "new statistics regarding live meeting participation." I'd definitely rather participate in a live meeting than in a zombie meeting!

Personally I'd prefer a zombie meeting.

Stuff like this is the only reason I miss Vancouver. Wish there were auctions/meetings/whatever out in the valley.

It's not at its usual location, though. It's at Kits Community Center. (See the first post)

Hi Roadrunner, The meeting was very good. This was the first WCAS meeting I've ever attended (I am also a member of VAHS but haven't made it to one of their meetings yet, either) so this is a new experience for me. And a pleasant one.

It was a business meeting rather than a social get-together or a visit from a guest speaker. Gary reviewed the first 8 months of the society and suggested that WCAS hold some of its meetings online so as to reach more people and to eliminate the need to find a venue. Everyone there agreed. I think that WCAS will also hold neighbourhood workshops or an annual conference to supplement the virtual meetings.

As I said, this was my first club meeting of any kind. I enjoyed meeting other people "face to face." They all had real names. I'm used to communicating through forums with people named "guppyking", etc, leaving messages at 6 am that will be replied to by 15 people over 2 days, so conversing in real time was novel to me. I might bring cookies next time I get to a F2F meeting. Pictures of cookies if it's virtual, lol.

Hm, that's too bad it will go more online. I loved the fact that I could meet other hobbyist in person, ask questions and listen to interesting stories from speakers. To me it seems that you like that very fact F2F yourself. I think we need more personal touch, we already have too many things going on online. Soon people won't know how to interact with other human beings other than via FB or SMS. It's kinda sad really.
