September has arrived in what seems like the blink of an eye, but we're excited because it means we'll be back to our regular WCAS meetings and seeing all of you. We're thrilled to present our next speaker on Monday, September 12th, at 7:30 p.m. in the UBC Kenny building as per usual. Lee Newman, Curator of Tropical Waters at the Vancouver Aquarium, will speak to us about his work with Neotropical Eartheaters. Lee is known internationally for his expertise on these fascinating cichlids, and we are lucky to have him agree to tell us more about them. Please see our website (www.wetcoastaquariumsociety.ca) for Lee's biography.
Place: Douglas Kenny Building, 2136 West Mall, Room 2010, UBC Campus
Getting there: Enter the UBC Campus from either NW Marine Drive, Chancellor Blvd, or SW Marine Drive and go to Gate 6. Parking is available at the West Parkade. The Douglas Kenny Building is located across the street, East of the parkade. Please see the map for details.
We'll also host our usual Q&A session as well as feature an informal discussion session with regards to "designer aquarium fish". Think a little about how you feel on this topic and be ready to share your opinions with your fellow members at the next meeting. For some background on the issues have a look at:

TFH Digital is now a WCAS member benefit
Tropical Fish Hobbyist Magazine (www.tfhmagazine.com) is offering to members of the Wet Coast Aquarium Society the inclusion of a Internet subscription to TFH Digital (www.tfhdigital.com) to each fully paid member as a benefit provided with your WCAS membership fee. Any current or new WCAS members who wish to obtain your one year subscription to TFH Digital please send an email to the WCAS Secretary: secretary@wetcoastaquariumsociety.ca by no later than Saturday, October 15, 2011. Please include the email address at which you want to receive your TFH Digital subscription notices and links.
Coincidentally there is an article about Eartheater cichlids in the September 2011 issue (page 72) of TFH Magazine, for those looking to brush up on some background for the next meeting.
Thank you for your support, and see you soon!
- Jen and the WCAS Board
