Default 25 watt heater for 17 gallons?

Would it be a problem to use a 25 watt cobalt neotherm in a 17 gallon tank? Iím trying to save a few bucks and donít really want to drop cash on a larger one, once the 17 gallon cycles Iím taking down the 6 gallon so it would just go in the closet.

Is 25 watts to underpowered to heat a 17 gallon tank? Or do I need to bite the bullet and get a 75 watt cobalt bro therm?

Might be ok, it depends on the difference of your ambient (room temperature) and the temperature you want to keep in your tank. Even the surface the tank is mounted on may make a difference. Just try it and see if it can maintain the temp for you.

If go by the specs, it is a bit under power... will take a long time to reach the temperature you want.
Why don't you put up a LF post on the equipment classifieds? I'm sure you will find a cheap 75w heater easy.
