I was at J L Aquatics and mentioned I have a long spined urchin, and the employee asked if I clip his spines. I had never heard of doing this, but I am quite new (3 months). Does anyone else trim their urchin?
Also off topic, I saw him on the glass today and it looks like there's a happy face on him. Had to take a pic.
I would say that is an unnecessarily cruel thing to do. If the urchin does not have room enough to move about without damaging some other corals I would reccomend either buying a larger tank for it or finding it a new home with a suitable space for it.
Ask yourself do you clip a long finned fish, not likely so why would you clip an urchin's spines when that's what they were created with? Totally not a good idea at all.
