    Thanks.
gH is general hardness which is how much minerals your water contains. Plants need minerals to build cell. Each type of plant have their own requirement of hardness depending on their natural habitat. Some plants will grow very well in soft water conditions but some will only grow when water is hard. That is why it is important to check the plant water hardness requirements for overall compatibility.

The net effect was coming home to a tank with algae. Well...to combat that I am trying to lower the photo period to 6 or less hours, 2-3 bps, added an air stone with pump, and got 5 small ramshorn snails. Have yet to start to treat the tank with EI dosing...

Any suggestions or recommendation are welcomed.

    Thanks Drew

What kind of algae? It looks like brown algae. If it is brown algae then you have silicates in your system. You may try to use RO water or Phosphate remover resin to remove the silicates. If you have some hair algae, use an airline hose to siphon off the hair algae or use an old tooth brush to twirl it around the brush and remove it.

I think the tank is looking good.

It was a little bit of green hair algae that I did manage to get under control! Hi-tech tanks do not like to be ignored when first being setup!

    Cheers and thanks....

I think all tanks whether hi-tech or not, will get problems if it is ignored...ha ha...
