I just adopted a 16" Ornate Bichir (5 years)
She has been in the Tank now for 3 days
and still not eating.
She was in a 130gal now shes in a 170gal.
doing ok, swimming around looking over her
new home
Is she just getting settled or ?
I cant get hold of the person that was
caring for her before.
Some input is needed here Please
Thank you all.
Try turning the lights off and leave the room for complete darkness. Bichirs are nocturanal and when newly introduce to a tank it may take weeks for them to settle in. Also when there is only one bichir hey tend to hide a lot. They come out more when there are plenty of them as they like to compete with each other. With less competition they become lazy.
Common mistakes of hobbyist when they get a new nocturnal fish is to watch them eat in front of them with lights on. Don't get too excited.
yes, turn of the light 1 days, maybe she shy, does any fish there ? give some smaller feeder, i guess she may eat!or u should feed sinking pellet, before my Bichir same too, he like eat sinking pellet only, and maybe the water temperature 28 C,,, hope it would help!
usually new fish will dont eat few 2-3 days, good luck!
