You will need about 16" to hang it. They are wide. I had one on my 120 gallon which was 18" and only had about an inch on either side to play with.

AC110 on a 55G?
I came across a cheap aquaclear 110 and was wondering if there would be any issues using it on my 55G? Also, is there any downside to hanging it on the short side of the aquarium instead of the long side? Thanks!

I used them on my African Cichlid tanks which I overstocked.
I have one on a 50 gallon turtle tank and it is mounted on the end instead of the long side.
Thanks for the comments! It turns out it wasn't an AC 110 but a 70 haha.
