I saw some African cichlids labelled "electric yellow solid" at the IPU Richmond location last week, and I'm wondering what their scientific name is. I'm a bit confused beause last week's flyer listed yellow labs on sale, but when I got to the store they were lablled "electric yellow solid" and they did not have the vertical black stripe on the dorsal fin characteristic of labs.

What's the rundown on these?

They're nice looking fish!

Most Labidochromis caeruleus I've seen have a dark stripe on their dorsal fins. Are the yellow solids the same species?

i saw those too and didnt buy them, i think they might be hybrids...
yellow labs should have the black on the dorsal fin and males will also have it on their lower fins as well as a black strip through their eye.
labidochromis caereulus also comes in a blue version which is much more common in the lake but afaik not a yellow version w/o the black on the dorsal fin.
