Hi guys,

Need some help on my java ferns. Recently upgraded from 20 gal long to 40 gal. After moving the java ferns to the new tank, almost all of them are turning brown within few days. Don't know what happened.

Almost the same setup as the old tank. They were doing very very good in old tank. Only difference was they were all stuck together in old tank, and I separated them before moving to new tank.

water parameter:
temperature: 25c
ph: 6.4
ammonia: 0
No2: 0
No3: 5ppm
KH: 2
GH: 7
Diy CO2: about 2bps

Typically when Java Ferns turn brown in a planted tank, it it usually an indicator of low/no (bottoming out) nitrates. They are nitrate sponges.

JM2¢!

Best regards,

Stuart

mmm....

I don't think it's the nitrates because I put few java ferns from the same old tank in another newly setup tank. They are not turning brown.
