I want to change out the gravel I have in my tank out for different substrate. I'm mostly worried about a mini-cycle so i was going to do it piecemeal, taking say a quadrant out and then putting new stuff in or is it better to essentially tear down my setup and then put everything back in? I know the gravel has most of the beneficial bacteria, if I might get a mini cycle because of a teardown Id rather not risk it.

more info on the tank, fish and filtration would help. Personally I have changed substrate completely but I heavily over filter my tanks and keep alot of bacteria in the filters by using bio balls and stuff. Never had a problem.
I think a little at a time would be risk free also if you have the patience.
