Took this little bugger off a friend, he was being a bit too mean. Wondering what it is? I was thinking it's a hybrid of a false firemouth? I'd like to know so I can plan a tank accordingly.

I don't know about convict cichlid, at least not purebred, but I am not ruling out a hybrid, these things are more and more common these days. Could be central or south american cross, but I wouldn't rule out tilapia from Africa either! Still, all you really need to know is cichlid (bigger they are, meaner, but sometimes the small ones can be mean as well!), and size (bound to get bigger). Have fun!

Not sure about convict...fins and head are not quite right...maybe Tilapia or similar.
