Is GE-1 silicone safe for fish? Seen a lot of websites and videos that recommended this specific brand of silicone. But I accidentally bought white silicone instead of clear. Is white still good to use?
Currently trying to make a paludarium styled wall so quite a bit of this stuff would be used to glue coir.

For me the red flag would be ‘Mold- free’
I was using GE-1 clear years ago and it was no mention about it been mold free.

They seem to have done some sort of rebranding. Both clear & white have this mold-free stuff on their label now. Some website still suggested it so I'm not too sure.

Generally you want to steer clear of "mold free" as it means they may have reformulated to include anti-mold agents.

mold free and mold resistant are different things. GE 1 says mold free and generally has a mold free time of 5-7 years in some environments. GE 2 has mold inhibitors that you want to stay away from.

Well, did a bit more digging, apparently a product specialist from GE replied to an inquiry from a member of another discussion board and said:
"Both the Silicone I and the Silicone II contain mold and mildew inhibitor's. Silicone II does have more so, with the specific Kitchen and Bath products having the most."

From what I understand the primary difference between GE 1 and 2 is the curing agent (acetic acid vs ammonia)

That being said, seems like the general consensus is that GE1 has been safe to use. Did they reformulate or just "enhanced" their marketing? That's anyone's guess.

I have used a home hardware 100% silicone ge1 for more builds than you can shake a stick at. They have added on some packaging that it contains some mold reducing products. Still have not had issues but let them cure extra.If your worried I would buy the j and l aquatics stuff and it’s not that much more. It will eliminate any worry
