Get a group of 4 or more; they shoal and are more active as a group.

Keep in mind, they get to be 6" long and are very active fish (they need space)

Do you know if they can survive in a group of one in a 20g tall?
While some say 20g is too small for SAE once them grow up (SAE does grow up to 6 inch and swim really fast.), they can live by itself. (I have 1 in 24g and another one in 45g.)

Not sure if you are buying SAE to get rid of hair algae or BBA, you can easy treat those with h2o2. (SAE will stop eat algae once it reach adult.)

No an SAE in a 20G isn't reasonable go use seriouslyfish.com for realistic sizes of each fish needed minimum. According to it for a group of 6 which you should at least have as they need more than one need 60x15 inch foot print. If you have algae problems I would recommend Nerites for most of them.
