For substrate: coconut coir, peat moss mixed with the washed send also works. Just make sure that it doesn’t have any fertilizer.
Food: Oatmeal, sometimes bread.
It takes some time in the beginning. I use coconut coir (the dried brick) and break off what I need. I feed them dog food, and put a small glass plate over the food. A decent amount of worms will crawl onto the glass, and when feeding I just dip the glass in the tank, refresh the food if necessary, replace the glass over the food and put a breathable lid over the culture container.
