Hey All.

I just got back into fish after a year off, and bought a nice black (blue in the fins) Male super delta, and was wondering i have a whole bunch of indian almond leaves that i bought on ebay a few years ago. I was wondering should i put these leaves into my new fishes tank? Reason im asking is odds are he was raised born in North america down south, and im sure they never used indian almond leaves so my question is would i risk doing any harm by adding these leaves?

P.s. I also remember reading that most black male fish are infertile is there any truth to this? I will post a picture of him once i get him settled into his new home..

Thanks in advance for your help.

I don' t they'll be any problem with putting almond leaves with the betta. if anything, it'll induce the betta to want to breed and spawn. it's been said that the chemicals and nutrients released by the almond leaves are beneficial to the health of all fish.

i put almond leaves in my planted tank also and also bought it on ebay.

good luck with the new betta!

From what I remember reading, there are three different types of black betta: melano, black lace, and black orchid. It sounds like your betta is most likely a black orchid so I'm pretty sure it is fertile because it's melano females that are infertile.

Of course, I'm no expert so someone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I wouldn't add the leaves... It'd be like giving viagra to a teenager and locking him in a room by himself.
