What kind of Africans are you keeping? Tell us a bit more about your tank and I'd be happy to pass on some of my experiences and/or tips that I've learned over the years

i just inherited a 40 gallon freshwatwer tank with a venustus and 4 yellow lab... so im still trying to decide what community tank to pursue and maybe upgrade to a much bigger tank..

Ya that Venustus will way outgrow a 40 gallon tank. In fact you'll be pretty limited to what you can keep in a tank that size but there are Africans out there that will do well in your tank. I would check out cichlid-forums and read through some of their cookie cutter tank options just to get an idea as to what fish will fit in a tank that size and go from there.
