Painting the aquarium question

I want to paint the back and sides of all my tanks black. Could I do it though without removing the fish? I won't do it if I have to move all my fish out of the tanks before I do it b/c that would be way to much work. If I can go ahead with this what is a good paint to use?

Flat latex paint. Cover the top of tank and do not use spray paint and you'll be fine. I use Rustoleum. Use a fan to vent the fumes.
I painted w/ latex as well, but it took 5-6 coats to get it dark.
Btw, why paint the sides?

I like my tanks to be dark on all three sides, so personal choice.:)
I would suggest against painting the sides. It definitely cuts down on observation points. But then again snow is a MFK. I guess you couldn't really miss a monster, or could you? The only reason I've seen people paint 3 sides and the bottom is for breeding purposes. I used to paint the bottom and the backs of my tanks all the time.

I didn't paint the sides on my 15 gallon even though it needs it. In the afternoon one side gets direct sunlight. What I did was put flat black craft paper on it. Didn't want the hassle of scrapping it all off if I had to change the tank around later.
I like my tanks do be all black. I was going to paint the bottom on my main tank but there is already black sand in the tank so really no point. I might just take out my electric eel and paint the bottom and three sides of his tank b/c he likes it dark to begin with.
Now that sounds like a logical reason. I say do it Snow.
