Hey, changed the lighting on my auranti tank and it seems to help me show more of his true color in the pictures, thought I'd share a few, not quite as vibrant as real life but closer… i'll take any excuse to show this guy off lol

At this point he stopped co-operating, he shot off, and is hiding in the final pic's

Came back for another glare lol

that gourami is the toughest fish i've ever seen, He was in a FW community tank, killed EVERYTHING , just wouldn’t lay off, so i tossed him into my 160 Mbuna tank, he took into them and they fought back, eventually he was badly beaten and backed down, within a month he was back in full color and killing cichlids lol, so i tossed him in that tank as a feeder, the auranti nailed him and he thrashed around broke free fully recovered, hasn’t had a problem since, This guy's lazy, nothing like my asiatica, he seems to lose interest in food if he has to work too hard LOL,

he also really seems to prefer Insect's and shrimp to fish, I'm sure one day he'll swallow that gourami but probably won’t be any time soon,

Thanks, And i've been debating the small schooling fish, but i've put in 15-20 small comets and he picks them all off over a matter of day's, I think anything too small will be looked at like treats, I'll try it some day, tried a school of zebra danios with my asiatica thinking they would be too small for him to bother with, he just got really excited and went into a feeding frenzy , the school didnt last 2 minutes lol, But he killed bigger fish as well , so next time i can get a nice school for a good price i'll try it!

haha yeah, you have to take out the asiatica first, let the zebras settle into the tank, then add the asiatica. Fish can detect others in distress and they get super excited which usually ends up with one dead
Tried that, NOTHING Ssurvives my with my asiatica, he's a fat killing machine, cant even put your hand in the tank without him attacking, he attacks the net, he even tries to bite hands through glass lol

NOt the best shot's of the asiatica, it was late evening, IN the morning's he has some really stunning patterns, you can faintly make it out in the pic's,under that white markings is a nice pattern, When excited the darker sections go a deep chocolate brown, white the other lighter areas turn a creamy white,

Just dug up a couple old pick's where i caught him in full color...

this was a few months back but shows the color's when he's excited,

not a nice feelingi'm sure lol, the auranti LOVES to jump for food, or hand's, a couple weeks back he almost got me in the face, i leaned over the tank to adjust the filter intake, and he lunged out at me, he was within 1/2 inch of my face lol, mouth wide open i got a great view !
