I have been trying to figure out lately what I want to have in my new tank. It's been a long time since I last had an aquarium and I know there is a lot more out there now then there was before.

I have a breeding pair of Convicts that I'm going to keep for a while since the babies really entertain my son and they're neat to have for the time being. There is also a 7" pleco a very big silver dollar, and maybe a 12" bala that I'm going to keep.

Anybody have any ideas what else I could put in there that would survive the convicts?

I'm not sure about stocking levels, since I've never kept any particularly large fish, but a couple things jump out at me. First, silver dollars are schooling fish, so ideally you should have at least 4 of them together so they're not stressed.

Secondly, the 12" bala seems large for a tank that's only 48" long and 18" wide (assuming a standard footprint).

I'm sure someone with more experience than I have will chime in, but I'm going to guess that you're pretty maxed out if not overstocked.

I have been going back and forth with the bala... he does seem a bit too big to me as well. As for the silver dollar, I do know that they are schooling fish but wouldnt a 5" one like this eat the smaller type you find in a store?

I am actually thinking I would like to rehome all of the large ones I have other than the 7" pleco. Finding ppl in Kamloops with huge tanks might be tricky though!

Well I have less of a problem now. I gave the 2 big plecos and the two sharks to a guy here who has a few huge tanks and lots of rescued fish.

So I am down to the silver dollar, one 7" pleco, a really amazing black angelfish and the convicts.

The guy said he was going to bring me a blood parrot when I get back from Van but I'm not sure if it would be ok?
