have a tank with just about 10 small fish, tetras, rasboras, .. 2 loaches.. had it for years suddenly getting brown algae on glass. only changes are switching from gravel to sand ... I have kept lights low for months.. have driftwood in the tank that has been in there years.. could it be time to replace it?

Brown algae is not really algae, but diatoms. Diatoms grow where there is a silicate food source or not enough light. Keeping the lights low could be the cause. I heard Otos will clean it up nicely, or you could just wipe the glass

Yes, if you like the driftwood, just give it time. IIRC, a b/n pleco could possibly give you a hand with the brown algae?
